Chocolate Power Balls

I'm always looking for little treats that curb the sweet craving while still being healthy and if I can get a little extra protein in at the same time, all the better.  I recently had a bunch of dates in my fridge (that's what happens when you buy dates that were only available in a large container and you're the only one in your house that would even consider eating a date!) and I knew I had to do something with them soon.  A brief search on the Internet led me to lots of recipes for protein balls and bars using dates.  Here's my personal take on some protein balls (perfect for a quick hit before or after a workout):

Chocolate Power Balls
(makes 26 balls)
33 dates
2 scoops Chocolate Casein protein powder
1/4 cup raw almonds
1-5 tbsp of water (add slowly if needed)
2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder (for dusting outside of balls)

Put all ingredients except the cocoa powder in a food processor and start it up! It takes times and you may have to add water (add it slowly) but it will come together into a dough with a bit of patience.  Once the ingredients have come together and formed a dough ball, remove the dough from the food processor.  Wet your hands (to prevent sticking) and roll into 26 small balls.  Roll each ball in a topping of your choice, I used cocoa powder and that's what been calculated into the nutritional info, but you could use coconut, ground nuts, protein powder etc etc etc!

These power balls set best in the freezer and I tend to keep them in there for a quick snack on the go.  Enjoy!
