Post-Show Life - Finding balance

Well, it's been two months since I stepped on stage at the Texas Shredder. What's been happening since??

For the first month after my show, I was adding calories and carbs back in and losing weight...which sounds great but I actually temporarily lost my period and that is not healthy! I don't plan on having kids but still, when your body stops functioning normally, it's important to pay attention and ask why. So for the last month, I've allowed myself to eat pretty much whatever I want and put on about 8lbs of fat. It doesn't sounds like much but I notice it - positively, my period is back (sorry TMI but I like to be honest here, especially about health) and negatively because clothes feel a bit tighter and my abs are in hiding!

In my case, my body was reacting more to a fast weight loss than an extremely low body fat. Now I am looking to slowly lose that 8lbs and probably a little more, without compromising my health along the way. A slow cut is going to be key here and it's why I haven't committed to any shows in the near future because although my body can get to a lower body fat, without compromising health, I need to do it slowly, with no deadline. And, I am only weighing myself once a week so I don't drive myself totally crazy!


Doing a competition was great for me - it gave me focus and allowed me to really work towards a goal I had been thinking about for a long time. But I believe it's equally important to keep balance in your life so my goal now is to get to a point where I can stay pretty lean year round and be about 4 weeks away from stage ready at any given time. This will allow me to compete regularly, which I love but also to not have my life (or my husband's life!) revolve around getting stage ready. Balance.
